Following the successful rollout of the City of London Corporation’s most technically advanced outdoor Wi-Fi system in the UK certainly, iWireless Solutions is proud to have been confirmed by CTIL (Cornerstone Telecommunications Infrastructure Limited) as the system integrator for the rollout of the small cell infrastructure within the Square Mile.
CTIL won and set up the contract in partnership with the City of London. The multi-million-pound concession is part of one of the largest investments in wireless infrastructure ever seen in the UK, providing workers, residents and visitors with the ability to access digital rich content in a dense urban environment. Together with O2, CTIL is building the 4G (LTE) based mobile network using small cells on City street furniture. This also means the CTIL can start preparing infrastructure in the City for the arrival of 5G, which is expected to become available in the near future.
The full scope of iWireless Solutions in this 3-year contract is to design, install, commission and optimise the entire small cells network, including suitable fixed/wireless backhaul, within the Square Mile. In addition, iWireless Solutions has been tasked with the maintenance of the full wireless system. The programme started in 2017 with an initial installation of 54 small cells – some in conjunction with the Wi-Fi deployment. In total, several 100 small cell deployments are planned for 2018.
