Here at iWireless Solutions we feel passionate about equality and would love to see more women working in the telecoms industry. Currently, only 17% of people working within the technology industry in the UK are female, according to WIT. To help change this situation we have been actively working with local communities to raise awareness of the exciting opportunities available to women in telecoms.
Back in 2018, we engaged with a local secondary school, where our female engineers and project managers led an assembly telling students about their career journey and discussing the challenges and rewards of their roles.
The forum resonated well with students and teachers alike, including James Lea, Curriculum Leader of Computing, ICT and E-Learning at Sackville School, “I think it was a really useful experience for our year 12 girls seeing the opportunities that could arise pursuing a career in the stem industries, the speakers were passionate about their roles and gave some real insight into some of the potential roles they could look to do in the future.”
This year, we want to replicate this success and take our message to more schools, universities and local communities around the country. For us it is great to get involved with local communities and speak to the next generation about the opportunities that are open to them when they finish their education.
Let’s shape the future together.
